I'm now running Ubuntu 10.4 on the new HP laptop. It has a lot of neat features, is quick to boot-up and shutdown, and it is free. It uses Firefox as its browser, and unlike Windows 7, I can view my internet cameras from it. However, the activex control under Windows XP is better because I can zoom in and out from the touchpad.
I'm running dual-boot with XP Professional SP3 because I do need Access to get to the SQL server databases. There may be a Linux equivalent, but I don't know what it is.
It lacks a hibernate feature, but I don't use that on Windows anymore because with all the DDR3 RAM on the new laptops, it is quicker to shutdown and startup than to hibernate, which writes/reads all of memory to the hard drive.
