Note that the phrase "under God" is missing. It was added later (in 1954) Although; CBS aired this in 1969; Red was quoting The Pledge of Allegiance that was made by his teacher, from many years ago. If Red had used "under God", he would have been telling a false story and using false quotes. God broke the mold after he made Red; Red was a Masterpiece.

Red Skelton was one of our great Mentors, to the generation of Baby Boomers. I still remember him closing his shows -- "Good night and my God bless."

I'll never foget the show where he sat down on the hot soldering iron. I was making my own ham radion equipment back then and did a lot of soldering myself. Yes, I got burned a few times too.
Actually, my worse burn was years later when working on a keypunch. I was unsoldering a part while trying to hold the printed circuit board at the same time. The board slipped, I grabed for it and the iron ended up on my ring finger. After several months the new skin developed little bumps like pimples, but after a year, you couldn't even tell that I'd done it.
Fixing stuff was sure a lot different back then. You even had to troubleshoot a car to determine what was wrong with it. Now days you plug in a computer and the car's computer tells it what the problem is with the car. (My son paid $4k for his computer, but it does anti-lock breaks and airbags too).
