Ahhh, the picture you point to is of the grip safety, and it is certainly something that doesn't work well for everyone. I like the grip safety to have the "memory pad" on the bottom of the safety. It protrudes and makes good contact. With the other type, which is smooth, I've had occasions where I didn't grip the gun properly and I didn't have the safety fully depressed. It gives the impression of a really crappy trigger if it fires at all.
The other thing people should know is if they intend to carry it, how will they carry it. Unlike Sigs, H&Ks etc. the 1911 is Single Action Only. It can't be cocked on the first round by pulling the trigger.
Personally, I no longer carry a 1911 because I prefer a double action pistol or revolver. The majority of the time, I carry a J-frame revolver.

TMan : "the 1911 is Single Action Only" ....Yes it is, but, Its also a Self Cocking, Auto Loading, Magazine Fed, Semi-Auto, with Safety Features , unlike other pistols. ...The 1911, in the right hands, is one of the safest designsl made in the world. .....Safety features includes the Grip Safety, The Thumb Safety, The Disconnector , The Hammer's Half Cocked Notch, and on the Series 80 Colts, The Passive Firing Pin Safety. Compare these Safety Features to other Semi-Auto Pistols. ....The Illustrations of the Disconnector begins with # 6 :Don't forget to read the bottom of the page for the decriptions.
