You may not have heard, but most of the midwest is experiencing much heavier than normal rainful this spring. I've been rained out of many of my springtime outdoor hobbies and chores. Since I can't get out and shoot as much as I would like, I decided to build some guns so I have something new to shoot when mother nature finally does dry up a little bit. I dug around my project box and dug out a couple parts kits. I bought these years ago, along with the receivers. Unfortunately, the parts kits for the FAL's were not as complete as they advertised. I have to order some more parts to make one of them complete. After a test fire, I'll figure out how I'm going to finish them, if at all.
A pair of Yugo RPKs, one with bipod, one without. The RPK is an AK variant. It is your basic AK on steriods. Yugoslavian AK's are in general a bit beefer. The receiver is thicker metal, the trunions are bigger, and the RPK is another step up, adding a longer and heavier barrel, note the cooling fins too (the barrel is not field changeable). It was issued as a squad light machine gun.
The black rifles are FAL's built from Imel kits (Brazil). The design is of course from FN, and was the rifle adopted by somewhere around 90 countries throughout the world. You can stir the pot almost as fast bringing up the AR vs FAL arguement as you can the AR vs AK debate. The FAL was designed on a smaller cartridge, but was adopted and built in 7.62x51 (.308). I'm going to steer somewhat clear of the debate. I will mention, that in general, I do like the design. I don't think the trigger can be tuned quite as easily or as well as the AR's, but I like the bolt/carrier and the gas system. Think of the SVT or SKS.
Can you tell it is raining again? enough talk...
