As most of you regulars know, I'm a fan of Henry's mainly because of the quality of their product, and if there ever is a problem (even because of my screw-up), they have the greatest customer service. Today while waiting for Becky to get off the phone, I was looking around quite bored, but not for long. I noticed she had a couple of new things from Henry up on the top shelf. One said: "Mare's Leg". The question was: Is it the 22LR version or the 45LC, which is much more expensive to shoot. It was the 22LR version. ;D Workmanship was typical for Henry: action smooth, trigger good, stock perfect, and MADE IN THE USA. Question: Since I don't have a horse, how the heck am I supposed to shoot this thing? Do you hold it up to your cheek to look through the sights like a rifle? Hold it out at arm's length like a revolver? Don't tell me to hold it on my hip because I wouldn't be able to see through the sights. Although Henry's name is "Mare's Leg", isn't it technically supposed to be "Mare's Laig" or is that a copyrighted or trade marked name. www.henryrepeating.com/rifle-mares-leg.cfm

I'll second TMan's comments on the Henry rifle build quality. I only wish they'd give us a real blued receiver cover instead of the painted one.

And I will second MLB's comment about the painted receiver. You have to be careful with cleaners or you will remove the paint.

...TMan; It seems like a good pistol.......I would like you load a picture of it after you buy it....We need some Lever Action Pistols in our member gallery section.
......At that price, I would seriously consider ...Henry is a top name.

....It seems as though The Mare's Laig pistol is becoming quite popular......I wonder if the recent exposure in The Movies has anything to do with this ;D

I replaced the rear sight on my Henry levergun with a Marble's peep sight ages ago. Shortly afterward, I picked up a blued blank to fill in the dovetail.... and there it sat in my gun cleaning box for years. Just last weekend, I finally tapped it in. Looks (and feels) much better than the open dovetail.

DA, I did buy it, along with the Calico, and it shot okay. I haven't put it away, it is still in the original box. It is too big to go in with the pistols and not long enough to go in with the rifles. I may have to just lock it up in the closet with the Jennings and Hi-Point. Poor thing being relegated to a life in the "closet of shame".
Ed hasn't shot it yet, and next week is dedicated to shooting the Ed Brown. Maybe the week after I'll take it to the range and he will take pictures of it. That reminds me: he took a picture of the Pardini GT45S today and hasn't sent it to me.

TMan;...My criticism is no better that the ratings of Obama, right now and I didn't want to rain on your parade....What was you expecting for $400. dollars in a Mare's Laig ?......The Original Mare's Laig has a shorter barrel with No Sights : ;D ;D ...Some of the "Mare's Laig" type pistol cost a lot more that the Rifles......It's Okay...Five Years Ago, I would have bought 3 at that price and be proud....It's only a novelty firearm ;D

Not $400. Becky's sells it for $297. (She gets a minimum of $25 on a gun purchase). The 45LC version is a lot more expensive: $720 and nobody currently has them that she buys from. The price could drop when a regular distributor has some.
The 22LR version is readily available.

$297 ......TMan; I'm glad that you purchased the .22 version. .......You bought Brand New ( so called ) Mare's Laig for $297. ;D ......You know, as well has I do, that most gun savvy enthusiasts has high regards to the accuracy and craftsmanship, that the Italians has been producing detailed reproduction firearms, from the American Old West......The "Mare's Laig" was made from a Winchester, not a Henry...but, just like my Puma...Its only a lever action pistol that is modeled after the "Mare's Laig", from The TV Show "Wanted Dead or Alive". ..Great Conversion Piece and I seriously doubt that the average person would not know the difference, between the real deal or the versions that we have. ;D ....Who cares about shots groups from a "Mare Laig" anyway ? ;D ....It's all about The Cool Factor with this pistol

DA, I paid less that the $297 as she sold it to me for her cost. You can do the math. I noticed today that the price went to $281 for 4 guns available from a different vendor.
Well I don't expect it to group like a Feinwerkbau, but I do expect it to group like a Henry. Perhaps a little less because of the shorter barrel.
Yes the car chase was "cool". I enjoyed seeing the Dodge Charger again. That was one of my not so good buys: I bought it the year before they completely redesigned it, it was automatic, and only the 318 engine. The Hemi was the big thing back then and I don't remember if it was 425 cu ft and 426 hp or the other way around.
I did get a 70 Chrysler 300 with the 440 cu ft engine and 4 barrel carb. It handled almost as good as a BMW. I loved the torsion bar suspension. I remember going down to Endicott on a back road early on a Monday morning. (I was teaching in Endicott and living in Rome, NY).
The road was all twists and curves with very few places to pass. There was a pickup truck on my tail. We went into a curve that was posted at 25 mph for some crazy reason. We took it at 60 mph with no problems. A few curves later was another posted 25 mph and here they meant it. I backed off a little just going into the curve and then enough gas to balance the car around the curve. I was doing just over 60 when I came out of it.
No sign of the pickup truck. Out of curiosity I slowed down to 40 for a few miles, but he never caught up.
For a long time I thought that nothing handled like a Chrysler. Then I discovered BMW's from their Motorsport Division. Now I know how a really good car handles. Getting back to the Mare's Leg or Laig: if you shoot the 45LC version with your cheek welded on the stock wouldn't you really notice the recoil?

...TMan; I couldn't help but notice, in the Video....The Stocks on th Mare's Laig appeared to be in need of something. If you don't already have this stuff, I highly recommend it. One small bottle will last a very long time. I rub it to the stock and let it overnight, then I buff it up, by hand, using a soft cloth. Birchwood Casey Grip Restorer If any of your shooting equipment looks worn out, bring it back to life with Stock Restorer and Protectant! It enriches the color of synthetic stocks and enhances the luster of your wood. Plus, it's excellent for many surfaces including plastic, metal, vinyl or leather. Put a like-new shine on your leather and vinyl gun cases and add a showroom gloss to all your accessories! The spray-on/wipe-off formula is harmless to blued, nickel and stainless metals as well as nearly all plastics. It's nonflammable, odorless and does not harm camouflage patterns. Available in a convenient 2-ounce pump spray bottle. Give it a try!
