I had some time to kill this morning while my daughter was at a school play practice. Stopped at an estate sale on a whim and found a small aluminum handled mess kit knife, marked L.F.&C. 1917 on the left side of the handle, and U.S. on the right.
For $2, I figured I couldn't really go wrong. Turns out that they're pretty common though. Ebay value of about $5. Still kinda cool though.

So if you bought it for $2 and can sell it for $5, percentage wise that is a lot better than I did in the market last year.

.....I have done a lot of purchases on ebay, and I found that the shipping & handling charges is misleading. Most of the time, I have found that this only happens only once & while, but, it does happen.
.....Same thing might happen on the Gunbroker Auction too.
......In the long run, I still come out ahead on ebay for items that I can't find within my local area.
......Estate Sales, Yard Sales, Flea Markets, Church Sales, Newspapers, and Advertisers was once my market place for antiques and rarities. My wife just bought two brass lamps, from an estate sale, yesterday, for $5. each.
