I took the EAA Witness Elite Gold Team to the range today.
It is both ported and has a compensator. I hadn't shot in quite awhile and was rather surprised at how loud it was. It was so loud at the first round that I flinched on the next two rounds.
The guy shooting next to me had his wife there shooting with him. My friend came down to see what all the noise was about, and mentioned that the woman was jumping each time the gun went off. He couldn't believe that it was just a 9mm and not something of a higher caliber.
I let him shoot it and then switched to the Pardini, which has open sights vs. a red dot and is neither ported nor has a compensator. I did just as well with the open sights as I did with the red dot. Well, actually better because I didn't get those two rounds out of the center ring like I did with the EAA.
Later I was showing the EAA to the RO, and he asked me how well it ran. I told him that I'd never had a problem with it, and he was surprised. He then pulled a ported barrel out of his range bag and told me it was for his Glock, and the Glock wouldn't run reliably with it. I told him that he might want to try a lighter recoil spring.
So there are some downsides to porting or having a compensator that I had not really thought much about before. It does keep the muzzle down, and it isn't something you would want in the dark, but the noise and the effect on reliability aren't things I'd considered before.

...The Burning Rate of the Gun Power, also has a lot to do with the muzzle flash. The higher velocity pistol cartridges uses a slower burning powder, while the slower cartridges uses a faster burning powder. ....With the right powder, in the right case, in the right pistol, in the right hands, the shooting speed will increase and the pistol will also maintain constant shot placement accuracy, from one round to the next. .....A pistol isn't tuned, until the right cartridge is loaded into it's chamber.
