From the "Ain't helping gun owners any" files . . .
(New York City) March 25 2004 - A man accidentally shot himself while watching a movie in a Times Square Theater Wednesday night.
Police say 21-year-old Anthony Clark was taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound in the leg.
They say he was apparently handling a 25-caliber pistol in his pocket during a tense moment in the 9:50pm showing of "Dawn of the Dead."
After the shot theater workers turned on the lights and called the police. An usher said Clark "was bleeding a lot from his leg."
He is reported to be in stable condition in the hospital. New York City Police say he is being charged with possession of a weapon.

That is terrible and funny. IF you are dumb enough to be handling your gun like that you deserve a round in the leg. The first rule of carrying concealed is that if you have your gun on -- Leave it alone! Dont be checking the safety and for goods sake keep your finger out of the trigger. He is lucky he put a round in his leg and didnt shoot anything else off!!
Love the stupdity of some people. My cousin's husband actually shot himself in the leg once too -- trying to quickdraw -- stupid, stupid, stupid...
thanks for the laugh Calahan -- Drake

That .25 caliber pistol was not a defensive weapon you know......... It's only use is to mark your killer so he can later be identified. If Nicole would have had one, she would be just as dead, but OJ would be behind bars.
Hopefully this nincompoop is OK and will not carry again. I take care of people who have shot themselves at least every six months. Most have never heard of the four rules.

I practice drawing from my holster for speed and "motor memory" on a regular basis.
And I do it with a loaded weapon.
Of course I have the good sense to only grab the handle and I focus on the golden rule. "Smooth is fast, and controlled is smooth".

Data, i recommend drawing from the holster with an UNLOADED weapon to build muscle memory, not only for safety's sake, but because you can also build muscle memory of aligning the sights, snicking off the safety and squeezing off the shot. I use Liberals on TV for dry fire practice in this manner. The McLaughlin Group is ideal. Just record a program and pick a talking head.

Ha Ha.
I guess I should have mentioned I do this at the range and actually fire the gun.
Otherwise I take one or two practice draws in the morning when Im getting ready to anticipate problems with my particular dress.
Saftey never goes off, finger never goes on the trigger, gun is aimed out the bathroom window towards the ground.
Im too lazy to unload it every am for the drill.
Call me reckless.

Reminds me of the thread I saw over at 1911forum about the two Gunsite students, one of which shot the other, while practicing his fast draw. Accidentally killed his best friend. God save them both.

Walk in movies have been a thing of the past for me since they started funneling the general public into those 24 screen movie mall complexes. With such a population of diversity under one roof, anything can happen, and usually does. I now please myself with the pleasure of having a loaded handgun within reaching distance, while enjoying the open air and confinement of my automobile at one of only five remaining Drive Inns within the State of Georgia; I also get two movies for the price of one, called "Double Features".

DoubleAction: Notice how in both your last post and my original post on this thread, typing a quotemark and a capital D gives you a quotemark and a smiley!

Maybe it's the keyboard command for the smiley, like hitting control V gives you a paste.

Dumbass is real lucky he isn't a eunuch.
You couldn't drag me into a theater.
All movies end up on DVD.
That's why I've got a home theater sound system that rocks the house, and a 36 inch XBR.
I can sit in a comfortable chair. No one's head is in my way. I can eat and drink what I want. I can stop the movie when I go to the can or get something to eat, and If the wife wants to get frisky, we're already at home ;D
I once knew a security guard who liked to finger his pistol, in his pocket. "Accidentally" shot a guy while talking about the football game that was on the night before. Standing there talking, and BOOM. Shot the guy in the stomach with a .45 out of a Derringer.
That brings up a whole other topic. Derringers, and why I dislike them....another time......
