Lowering the hammer on the Sig Sauers

Perhaps you have noticed the warning from SIGARMS which insists that the hammer on the Sig must always be dropped by the decocking device and never by the thumb. This is curious in view of the fact that for many years the Walther people always recommended that the weapon be decocked with the thumb and not with the hammer dropper. This is still more evidence of a world in which we are to depend on machinery rather than upon ourselves. Dropping the hammer with a decocker is usually safe. (Just be sure the weapon is pointed in a safe direction when you do it.)

......I have to stress that thumbing the hammer down on a Sig Sauer P- Series pistol disengages the incorporated safety lock work to the pistol, while allowing the hammer to rest on the firing pin. The decocker is not there to make life easier on your thumb; It's purpose is to safely lower the hammer, while disengaging the sear, and activating the firing pin safety block. Thumbing the hammer defeats this safety system.

If the hammer is ever lowered on a loaded chamber, the lock work of the double action revolvers has a firing pin transfer bar which blocks the firing pin from resting on the primer cap. Same method as the transfer bar on the single action Rugers.

This is where the safe handling of firearms comes into play, in knowing how function meets with safety.

I don't doubt your words, DA. When it comes to law enforcement and a free society, any incompetence in law enforcement is a tradgedy for the free society.

Nobody I know rides the hammer home to decock. Might be cool for a movie but in reality there is too much risk.

I know the LE in your county are especially corrupt and incompetent. You can listen to them on the scanner for 30 minutes and realize they don't know WTF they are doing. Clayton has been infested with... an infestation. Nothing one can do but keep moving.

Don't judge everywhere else by the same level though.

I'll be moving one county north shortly. Too much Section 8 moving in around here.

I am very sorry to hear that in to-days society they still have Bozo's running the top positions in some area's. Here we would NOT put up with any of that and would have them fired faster then a speeding bullet. Our laws are different I know and they are extremely answerable to the public here. They cannot get away with stupidity as the 1st time they spend at least a year behind the desk for the 1st Boo Boo. If there's a repeat they don't work there anymore ever. That's if they aren't fired the 1st time. Glocks are junk as far as I am concerned and most Police services that use them are paid to use them as well. The guy that buys is paid. I personally think they are one of the most dangerous handguns made by their design.
