Last month we were going on a safari each afternoon for our time in Ranthambhore. One morning I decided that we should go view the Ranthambhore Fort that we saw on the way into the Tiger Reserve. The hotel provided us with a guide and a vehicle. For some strange reason I assumed that the vehicle would drive us up the hill to the fort. Never assume. Last weekend while in Chennai, I had a series of medical test, one of which was a stress test on a treadmill. The treadmill was a piece of cake compared to the walk up to the fort. The guide and my wife were is good shape. I wasn't. Added to that was 30 lbs of camera equipment in a backpack. The fort was interesting from one aspect, which happens to be why I posting this: it had two sizes of openings that pointed down towards any attacking troops. The smaller one made sense, but the larger one didn't. Why such a big hole. It couldn't be for a cannon because it was too high up. So I asked the guide. Nasty people!!!! It was for pouring hot oil onto the approaching troops. Not only that, but they would put mustard in the oil so not only did you get burned physically, but chemically too. Here is a picture I found on the internet of the entrance to the fort:
