We finished our Spring .22 cal League yesterday and my average for the match was 89.12, so I guess I will be getting a card from the NRA for Sharpshooter. I was hoping to make it into the Expert Classification but I will have to do better in up coming matches. I was on the second relay, so as I was watching the shooters on the first, I notice a fellow putting a drop of oil on his .22 rounds after he had loaded his magazine with 5 rounds. I've been shooting for a long time and I can tell you for sure I have never seen that before. I did not get a chance to ask him why he was doing it so I will put it out here. Does anyone know why this step is necessary? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Was he putting the oil on the bullet or on the case? He may have a tight chamber and the oil makes it easier for the case to enter/exit. I have one bolt action rifle that the chamber is extremely tight. Some day I'll try a bunch of different ammo to find out what type of match ammo is the easiest to load and provides the greatest accuracy.
I've often wondered about the lubricant that they put on a lot of the higher dollar 22LR ammo. It makes it a bit of a pain to use because I have to keep wiping my fingers on a rag.

....Lead Bullets are self lubricating. I polish the bore.
