Lisa, I don't have the P95, but I do have the P90, which is essentially the same gun. I'm not sure what you meant by the S&W "SD model".
If it was me, I'd go for the Stoeger (sp?) Cougar. I have it as well as the PX4 and the 17L, which is the longer slide version of the 17.
My second choice would be the PX4. The Cougar is the Beretta design, but it isn't as expensive as it would be with the Beretta logo.
It would be nice if you could find a gun range near you that rents guns so you could test before committing yourself.
My first gun was the Ruger P90, and it now as laser grips and is next to my bed at night. What I didn't realize when I bought it was the addiction. The guns multiplied faster than rabbits. ;D

My club issues handguns to our new members to try out while they are on course. They do not take them home but they are for use at our range only while under our supervision. This way they get to try many different makes and models as we have models from Berretta, S&W, Ruger,High standard and more. I would suggest looking at a 9mm Berretta 92FS which is the most proven and tested handgun in the history of handguns so far. I have one and absolutely love it. May be called a M9 in your area.
