As I write this I can say that they are available, and that wasn't always true. www.sportingarms.com now only lists guns that are available, and she is currently showing 6 that vary from $161 to $198. Recall that they have a blowback design, which normally wouldn't work for a round like the 45ACP or 40S&W. They get by this limitation by making the slide extremely heavy. If you can't afford anything else, then this is your gun and will likely serve you well. You aren't going to put thousands of rounds through it because if you had that much money to buy ammo and you bought the cheap gun, you are an idiot. The only thing that I really dislike is having to drive out a pin in order to field strip it. However, according to the manufacturer this should only be done every 1500-2000 rounds. Lets see at a low price of $20/box 1500 rounds would cost you $600 to put through your $200 pistol. They do say to clean the barrel every 300-400 rounds, but you can do that without having to field-strip the pistol. Based on the above I'd have to say that having to drive out the pin in order to field-strip it is not an issue. Just don't take it to some competitive shooting match and not expect to be ridiculed.

......Unless, It's only at a Hi-Point Pistol Club ;D
...Thanks TMan; I feel the same way that I do, about the right to be armed for self defense :

I fired one in 45APC last Thursday night at our club. The trigger was terrible as the gun literally turned sideways on me before it fired from just my hand pull alone. Pulling a dump truck with my teeth might have been easier then that trigger. They sell for $249.95 here in Canada at this time.

...Yea; The first Hi-Point pistol shown to me, was one that my neighbor brought over, in 45 acp.....The very first thing that was going through my head was "Pure Junk"....and nothing more than a cheap "Stick Up Gun". Reminder; During that time, I fetching In The Box Pre-Owned Colt 1911 pistols for less than $400. dollars.

I have never shot one in 45ACP, but have one in 9mm. Yes, the trigger pull is heavy, and probably on purpose. Thinking about the Glock NYC special trigger that is heavier because it is deemed safer. If a manufacturer makes a 20lb trigger they are not likely to be sued because of an accidental discharge. With a 2lb trigger they could be in real trouble.
Don't forget that these are blowback design. That is why the slide is so big and heavy. My only real complaint with the pistol is having to drive out a pin in order to field-strip it. Of course considering the weight, I wouldn't want to carry one as a concealed weapon.

I've only fired one once. It had issues getting through a magazine without jamming, but the owner said he thought it was the ammo he purchaced.
Maybe if it was all you could afford to get, but I think I'd rather have a good used gun than a new Hi-point.

They produce a rifle as well in 45APC that uses the same magazine as the 1911 model they use. Its around the same price of $250.00 as well. At least its handy to carry on the one type of mag for both guns.

Hi point pistols often get a bad rap, but most people seem to love the carbines. The can hardly make them fast enough. Interesting thing though, look at the original style/stock on the carbines and look at the handguns side by side. See the similarities? The new stock style does make them look better.

I was shooting with my buddy who owns the High Point 45 I fired and he really likes the Carbine a lot but the pistol is on the bottom of his 45APC list. He has a no. of them of all makes including the Colt National Cup as well. He is our Chief Gun Officer for handguns at the club so he does know his stuff for sure.
