Good link DA.
I'm always careful not to get the idiot mark, but I think the tool will buy a lot of piece of mind when assembling. Therefore, I ordered it (Elite Series).

.....Sometimes the barrel link might not be lined up, and some might use the stop pin to line it up, one slip will mark the frame.
....This is one of those good ideas, when he thought we knew everything. Idiot Mark is at the top of list, when reassembling the 1911, and it is the most common scratch on pre-owned 1911 pistols.

Not just on 1911's. I have it on my previously owned (by an indiot) P210.

...TMan; Before the Internet, a lot of new owners was riding on nothing but instinct and maybe a factory manual. I was subscribing to every gun publisher, book, and video producer that I could find for help; I was all alone will this.
.....With nobody to help; The only to learn about the Idiot Mark is after it's already done. When I started to ask questions to a gunsmith, he told me to get educated....He said nothing else. ;D
...My first task was searching for the books and video tapes. The advice that he gave me, resulted in a lost customer for his shop. This when I began doing business with Wilson Combat, Kings Gun Works, Brownell's, Evolution Gun Works, and several others. These people was very helpful to me; When I called up EGW, to order a oversized firing pin block, the guy ask me if it was for a Series 80 or a 70....The pistol that I was ordering it for didn't have it marked anywhere; I later learn the difference. This is the reason why I came on the Internet, because know how it feels to be lost without a compass.
