Am I missing something here?
If on Friday I go into a gun store to purchase a gun, they have to do a background check.
However, if I wait until Saturday and go to a gun show, I can buy the same gun without a background check?
Is this right or am I wrong about it?
If I'm right, isn't this just plain stupid?

TMan; In many states, Gun Shows is like selling a gun to your brother which don't require a background check. It's conducted like a private sale. ....Most Dealers that has a FFL, they have to abide by the Laws, but, at Guns Show, many that sell firearms are not license dealers. ....Some of our Gun Shows has in house assistance background checks, for private sales. .....I'm a Law Abiding Citizen, just like you and others on our forum......All of us knows the difference between right & wrong and how these firearms end up in the wrong hands. ....Let me introduced you to our county Chief of Police, and his gun giveaway day : "Police arrest three, remind others to be safe"

I don't mind the background check idea. It would be a real PITA if you had to do a background check for a private sale though.

It would be a real PITA if you had to do a background check for a private sale though. .....TMan; In Georgia, having a State Issued Carry Permit don't allow for these Federal background checks when purchasing a firearm. Georgia approved this, right after Clinton signed this Brady Bill. .....The whole purpose of The Brady Campaign was to have The Brady Passed, but, since the Bill was signed, they have tried their utmost to abolished our lawful rights, under The Second Amendment. These lopsided anti-self defense organizations will never be satisfied. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA V. HELLER

WE have the background checks here also but only for getting your 1st ATT which is Authorization to Transport. You cannot even buy a firearm until you pass the Mounties questionaire on this one and then just buy away all you want or can afford.

The gunshows here will rent tables to FFL holders and non liscense holders (private sales, and the knife, cammo, ultra cheapo holster and bag dealers) In the state of Ohio, the FFL dealers all do the NICS check, but a private seller does not have to. SO, I could take some guns to a show, set up a table and put a "private sale" sign on the table and sell to anybody I'd like. Also there are private individuals that will carry around a gun or two with a sign affixed somewhere to them or the gun with a price. No background check required/performed.
