Sen. Feinstein suggests national buyback of guns

"Confiscation could be an option,” Cuomo told The New York Times yesterday when discussing semiautomatic weapons. “Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”

Australia implemented a mandatory buyback program in 1996 following a mass shooting. “The law banned semiautomatic and automatic rifles and shotguns and put in place a mandatory buy-back program for newly banned weapons,” USA Today recalls. “The buyback led to the destruction of 650,000 gun.”

Some liberal activists want the policy imitated here. “That would be like destroying 50 million guns in America today,” the Center for American Progress’ Matt Miller wrote after noting that Australia eliminated 20 percent of the weapons in the country. “The Australian ‘outlaw and repurchase’ option is one approach. But if Congress balks at banning certain weapons entirely, it could make gun owners an offer they can’t refuse. Instead of $200 a gun, Uncle Sam might offer $500.”

Feinstein also said that that former President Bill Clinton had volunteered, on a phone call, to help her get a new gun law passed.

"NRA CEO calls assault weapon ban 'phony'"

National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre on Sunday dismissed California Sen. Dianne Feinstein's push to renew the assault weapons ban, calling it "a phony piece of legislation."

The legislation "is all built on lies that have been found out" and won't pass, LaPierre said on NBC's "Meet the Press," before launching into an attack on the claims that the media and some politicians have made about guns.

"Everything these politicians are saying about that is not true," he said. "They say these guns are more powerful -- not true. That they make bigger holes - not true. They say they use larger bullets -- not true. That they're weapons of war -- not true....They say they're military guns like our soldiers use -- that's not true."

Before the Gun Free School Zone Act there were three mass shootings. One in 1927, one in 1966, and one in 1989. The law was passed in 1990.
Since it was passed, criminals who want to rack up a body count have chosen schools (and other gun-free areas) as their location of choice for the their killing area. See, after the ban was passed, there have been between one and six shootings in schools PER YEAR!

So how many deaths do you lay at the door of the NRA, and how many do you lay at the door of the anti-gunners? To me, that is easy. The first three were spread over 72 years. So lay one shooting at the feet of the NRA. The rest, about 75 of them, are CLEARLY the fault of the anti-gun laws that make the victim zones so sweet a target.

Feinstein said Tuesday members of her staff and rewriting the old bill, which expired in 2004.

"We ban about 100 weapons by names and we also reduce the physical characteristic test to one," she said. "We grandfather existing weapons."

Feinstein said she has spoken to House and Senate Democrats as her staff drafts the new bill. She said she also wants to speak to Manchin. Reps. Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo., and Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., are leading House efforts on the assault weapons ban, Feinstein said.

30rd magazines are going for $50-60 now.
Try to find .223 ammo at reasonable prices. I saw some from a large retailer selling bulk Lake City "Penetrator" for $1/rd.

WE had until recently to register all of our long guns here in Canada which they said was to control the criminal element among us. After over 2 Billion dollars was pee'd away by theiving Gov officials whom we know who they are they discovered only the good people who did NO wrong registered their guns. It did not help anything so they dropped the registration of all of our long guns up here totally about 3 months ago now. We have been buying and selling long guns like crazy here between ourselves and absolutely no-one is telling our Gov anything. Only the province of Quebec is trying to hang-on to the registration but thats their weird way of doing things. We are not overly impressed with them and their greedy ways up here at all as they treat english speaking people like dirt in pushing their French rights on them. They are always screaming to seperate but where are they going to go and who would really want them?
