Hmm, a little panic buying? We all know it is going on. My goodness, I've seen prices climb on the auction sites. Stripped AR lowers that were $75 now have bids for $300. I decided to see if there were any published numbers for background checks. FBI's monthly list by state No shock that there was a large jump in checks this past December. I've not crunched the numbers, but it looks like a bigger jump than previous years. What did surprise me was the state with the most checks in 2012...Kentuckry. (and all the other years that I checked) I thought it'd be Texas.

They posted up here that the NRHA has around 8000 more members every day then normal join up for membership just last month alone. Definitely a line has been drawn to have this kind of response.

I don't know if it is the manufacturers or the distributors that are jacking up the prices. For example: yesterday I saw at one distributor that the Kel-Tec shotgun had gone up by 59%. I've seen similar things over the last few weeks.
My program only flags price changes >= 15%. There weren't many during the shot-show, so that makes me think that it is the distributors.
No telling what the dealers are doing. I know that Becky has not changed her markup because I'm the one that would have to change it in my database in order for it to take effect.

I've been trying to find a Ruger 1911 without any luck. No one has them in stock. I think it's time for MLB to join the 1911 crew. It's getting a bit crazy here in NYS. I'm going to pick one up before I can't.

....MLB; The 1911 pistol shouldn't be affected by any new firearm legislation. The 1911 has a single stacked magazine, holding less than 10 rounds; Unless the jackasses intends to ban all semi-auto firearms. From the way it appears, this is what they are attempting to do.

most everything is out of stock. Gunshow tables are increasingly bare and prices are getting hard to bear. 1911's of most brands have been fairly hard to come by here as well.
Pmags for the AR-15 are stupid expensive (30rd). Up from $15-20 to $50+. Aluminum have increases as well, but not quite to that mark yet.
Powder, primers are all sold out locally and many online retailers too. Hopefully, this will die down soon, or supply starts catching up with demand again.

I wouldn't have thought that Cuomo would have pushed through a law that makes my hobbled 10 round magazines "high capacity" now either. The new "safe" magazine holds no more than 7 rounds now in the bizarre State of NY.
Who knows when all semi auto handguns will be illegal to sell here. I can't see spending 2k on the bobtail I'd really like, but if I can find that Ruger, I'm picking it up.
I've seen plenty of the Remington 1911s around, but I can't get past the painted slide.

Just for grins I did a search on Becky's web-site for "9mm". The results showed only 5 guns available. This doesn't mean at her shop, but across the distributors that she buys from.
Searching on .45ACP got more results.
MLB, I have a S&W 357 revolver that holds 8 rounds. I guess that would be illegal in NY too?
So will the manufacturers create additional SKU's for models with 7 round magazines just for NY? It might not be economically justified to do so.
Might be time to start buying stock in some high end powerful pellet gun manufacturers.

Well, let me know if you happen upon a location for that Ruger. I'll keep looking...
The new law makes all mags over 10 rounds illegal, those 10 rounders that we have are ok if we only keep 7 rounds loaded. Revolvers were not addressed. That's actually pretty funny. A 10 round revolver is legal and a 10 round MK II is not.
I understand that we will have to get our 10 round mags "fixed" to 7 within a year.
Oy Vey.

My dealer did a quick search of his distributers and they were much like Tmans report. Of ~1000 handgun skus, 5 guns in stock at one distributer, and none were 1911s.

Tman is that 357 a model 627 by chance as thats my dream gun I am saving for next. Jerry Miculek designed that gun himself and shoots one in competition. Nickle plated with the really nice wooden grips. Its a very beautiful design for sure

Yes, that is the one. I shot it originally with the rubber grips, and then again with the wooden grips. I didn't find the recoil objectionable with the wooden grips, so I left them on it.
The 627 led me to the discovery that the more holes you have in the cylinder, the longer it takes to clean it.
I have a 10 rd 22LR revolver and I don't shoot it much either because it is a pain to clean.
Since I am a lazy SOB, the guns I do shoot the most are those that are easy to clean.
I wasn't aware that Jerry Miculek designed the gun. Mine is SS, not nickle plated. It would look really cool if it was, but then I'd be afraid to ever shoot it. I've never shot the nickle plated Python with the 8" barrel that is chambered in 38 Special. When I bought it, I didn't even know they made it. Kind of like my Ruger Single-Shot that is chambered in 7.62X39. At the time I bought it I did a search on Ruger's web-site and there was no reference to them ever making it.
I have shot the Ruger, but it isn't fun compared to shooting the same round in one of the SKS's. My shoulder wasn't happy with me shooting it.
I also have the 625 JM that uses the moon clips. I found out the first time I shot it that I really did need a tool for loading and unloading the moon clips or you get really sore fingers.
Why someone would want a revolver that shoots semi-auto ammo is beyond me. I got it because of the JM. I just checked the S&W web-site and the interesting thing about the 625 JM is that it is not listed as coming out of the Performance Center. Neither my 460 S&W or 500 S&W came out of the PC either, but they both have excellent triggers.

.....For Jerry; Speed Loading.
.....The moon clips are much faster than speed loaders, with the double action revolvers.
......The history of The S&W M-25 revolver is another story.

Tman I put a Muzzle brake on my SKS which really helped out with the kickback on that rifle. Never had a sore shoulder again after installing it. I also installed a Bipod as well plus lengthed the stock about 4" with a 1" rubber kickpad on the rear as well. It is much nicer to shoot with the longer length and the recoil is cut down around 75% as well.

We are still having problems up here getting 22 ammunition. The other types seem to have corrected themselves as far as shortages go lately altho the prices have shot up which is getting ridiculous for some of it. The military ammo is in plenty of supply if you wish to shoot these types of guns and at fairly reasonable pricing as well. 1400 rounds for a SKS costs around $219.95 up here at the moment on sale.

Most of our ammo is has come back with the exception of the 22cal. I am lucky that I still have around 1100 rounds of either CCI or Blazer 22 ammo left in stock at this time. I have lots of Federal 22 ammo for my Annie rifle but need the CCI and Blazer for my pistols as they are very picky on what they shoot.

I've seen 22lr on store shelves for pretty reasonable prices twice now! Hopefully a sign things are coming around.

We still have a total shortage of 22 ammo here. Even the cheap bulk packs are really hard to find for straight plinking. I have a Brick and 3/4 of Federal left for my Annie Sportster rifle.
