Yes, it's firearm registration. Every handgun I own must be listed on my carry permit. Long guns do not need to be registered, aside from the recent law requiring "Assault Rifles" to be registered. That's the one being appealed. Hopefully it'll be overturned.
I did get to pick up the Ruger today. Naturally, I looked it over... and disassembled it. Well, at least a field strip. Got it cleaned up, and looking forward to burning through my first box of 45.

He had the same law, when my father had a Georgia State Carry Permit ( Pistol Totter Permit ) during the sixties. Each Handgun had to be listed on the permit, and the reason for requesting a carry permit, on the application. I noticed that the pro-groups, in your State has filed a lawsuit. The membership of these Pro-Gun groups will swell over time, and affect the elections in your State. .....I'm thrilled about your 1911; The is probably the best news that I seen in awhile on our forum.

Wow, you got it so quickly. I'm impressed, and like DA, thrilled that you finally got a 1911.
On the flight from New Delhi to London I sat next to an Indian guy who was coming to the states on business. He told me that every time he comes to the states he looks up a shooting range and goes to rent handguns and shoots.
I told him that I owned handguns. He said: "Do you have a 1911?" I replied: "Several". Interesting that he recognized the 1911 as the best.
Being a long standing member of this forum, you know that I love Rugers (the SR-9 being the exception), but I think they outdid themselves with the 1911. It would be hard to beat. Again I mention that the wholesale on the Taurus 1911's (last time I checked) was greater than the Ruger 1911.

I fired a friends Taurus 1911 recently. I'm afraid I don't have enough experience with the 1911 to judge them well, but I did enjoy running through the mags with it.
The only thing that concerns me a little about the Ruger is that the trigger is a bit loose in the frame. I'll compare a bit and see if it's just the way it's supposed to be, or perhaps it needs a little adjustment / fitting. After a bit of take-up, there's a crisp break, so that seems fine. Either way, I won't be messing around with it until I've broken it in.
I'm sure you can envision the sh!t-eating grin I'll have this weekend.

ML; Many factory triggers doesn't have the horizontal adjustable tabs. The take up screw adjustment shouldn't be over adjusted, to where the trigger prematures come in contact with the disconnect plate. .....The Horizontal Adjust Tabs on the trigger, is located on the bottom of the Trigger Strut, by the trigger shoe. This takes up the Side to Slide play on the frame. This tabs are very easy to break off. This Trigger is made by Millet; You might ought to increase the size of the picture to obtain a closer look at the trigger.

MLB, don't sweat the small stuff. If the trigger isn't binding it is fine as long as it isn't gritty or feeling creepy. As long as the slide isn't sloppy I think you are good to go. It is a 1911. Hope you have success in finding ammo to shoot in the thing.

Thanks guys. I'm sure it'll do just what it should. I hadn't known about the horizontal tabs.
Ammo is sparse. I was fortunate enough to find a 100pack of WWB for $40. Odd that I find that "fortunate". Not so long ago, I could buy a box of 500 .22lr for $9. The LGS currently has boxes of 50 thunderbolts for $9.

Oh, that is crazy. For one thing: Thunderbolts are crap.

My guns run away from that stuff at a high jogging speed. Especially my M41 and m46. My Annie rifles will pop it but still jam a lot with it. I am due to start pumping out some 45 ammo again as I have anew case of 230 gr r/n bullets sitting on my bench at the moment. I will need for the outdoor range very shortly when the weather gets better.

I had intended to get some range time in with it this past weekend, but I decided to be good and do my taxes instead.
So much intent, so little time, even fewer bullets...

I was good too, finally got all the information into E&Y to do our taxes.
I got an e-mail back from them wanting to know how many days I'd spent in NY state last year. I looked up my airline reservations and sent it to them along with a query as to why they needed it.
They said if I exceeded 183 days I would be considered a resident and have to pay NY state taxes. I'm waiting for NY to change that where if you own any property in NY state you have to pay NY income taxes. The amount I pay on the two small houses in property tax is proportionally a lot more than I pay on the houses in Texas and way more than what I pay on the house in Georgia.
MLB, you really need to go shoot that gun in order to fully appreciate it. As I've said before: it is the best buy in a 1911 out there.

Be careful in loading it. Here is a good explanation of the correct way to load the M1 Garand:

Well, my brother in law bailed, but my son and I had a good time of it. Man it was cold out. I would have liked to use the indoor range, but only lead is allowed there, and I have only jacketed. The Ruger ran without a single malfunction. I'm going to have a good time with this one. It's not hard to shoot well. Naturally, I took it down afterwards, and then maybe not so naturally, I decided to go ahead and strip it to the frame. I recall that DA was interested in fire control pictures. I noticed that the hammer appears to have the nose that protects the sear hooks. Take a look and see if I'm looking at it correctly. Getting it all back together wasn't too difficult, considering all of the reference material here at the Handgun Forum. DA's pictures and links were very helpful. I'm really impressed that it can be taken down with no tools. Some real thought went into this design. The only issue I had was during the installation of the sear spring. Somehow I had the long leaf between the trigger bar and the sear instead of pressing on both. When the hammer wouldn't cock, I knew I had something misaligned, and it was a quick fix.

MLB : "only issue I had was during the installation of the sear spring. Somehow I had the long leaf between the trigger bar and the sear instead of pressing on both. When the hammer wouldn't cock, I knew I had something misaligned, and it was a quick fix. "
.....Good Show, MLB !!!!
......I'm glad that you caught the misalignment of the sear spring; The same thing happened to me, when first began detail stripping the frame. This is the reasons why I placed the Functional Controls, before the Disassembly & The Reassembly.
....You know more about the 1911, than most other 1911 owners does. Although; The 1911 pistol is designed to be simple to learn, it took a Genius design this pistol.
.....MLB; Words cannot begin to describe my happiness, by your photos & post. This made my day !!!
.....MLB; Thanks for posting photos of the fire control system. The trigger is good, with the narrowed half notch protecting the sear nose from damage. The trigger seems to have the horizontal adjustment tabs, also, if I'm not mistaken.
.....These are parts, that are seen on high end pistols. Ruger made their mark on their 1911.....You would be hard pressed to find anything lacking in this pistol.
....The double diamond wood grips, with the Ruger Medallion, gave me a gut feeling that this pistol would out shine most others. When seen from the internal components, I was more surprised.
....MLB; Another question : Did these Hex Head Grip Screws came from the factory, with this pistol ?
