I took the POW/MIA pistol to the range last week. After only 2 magazines, I noticed that the grips were loose. The grip screws had allen heads, and I didn't want to screw with them at the range (uhhh, no pun intended, but I'll leave it there anyhow).
Being that Ed hasn't seen this, I decided to take it to the range, but needed to tighten the screws. I found that all 4 screws were loose. I started tightening them, but then got a little scared because of these being plastic grips - I'd be screwed (yes, I'm having fun with this), if I cracked the grips.
Is there any danger of cracking plastic 1911 grips? I don't want to use Loctite for fear that if I needed to remove the grips then the bushing would unscrew. Obviously lock washers, unless they were the Browning Buckmark type, are out of the question.
Oh, why am I shooting this pistol? I've decided that if it doesn't come in a special display case, it gets shot. The exception was the Colt National Match. It came in a display case, but I used the display case for my Colt with the dragon on it, that I didn't intend to shoot.
So the Walther P7M8 wont' get shot, nor will the Kimber Super America, the Colt Dragon, and the Colt National Match in 38 Super. (This "rule" is subject to chage without notice ;D ).

TMan; The grips should set on the grip screw bushings without the risk of cracking the grips. Take off the grip screws and see for yourself how the grips fit on the grip screw bushings. There should be no variances at the top of the grip bushings and hole in the grips. The grips should fit perfectly. The Grip Screws should be torque on the Screw Bushings, instead of the Grips.
