II MADE UP ABOUT 150 ROUNDS OF 45 apc LAST WEEK AND NEVER REALLY CHECKED MY CHARGING MACHINE CLOSE ENOUGH. I WAS A LITTLE BIT OVER THE SUGGESTED POWDER WEIGHT OF 4 GRMS WHICH I WANTED FOR TARGET SHOOTING. The 1st round told me so as it blew all of the oil out of the gun and jammed it shut. Destroyed a Brand new Wilson Combat magazine as well when it blew out the side of the caseing. Put the gun in my small Vise and with a piece of round hardwood dowling and a Deadblow Hammer I have been able to get her open. The action is a wee bit slow so I will strip it down for a super cleaning. I figure it was around 7 grams when it went off as it sure rocked me and the gun pretty good. The Barrel seems OK and I have since stripped all that ammo down. Gotta pay much more attention when I am reloading in the future. This was a close one which I don't wish to ever repeat again. I am placing the spent cartridge in a prominent place so it will always be a reminder to me to double and triple check my equipment when doing this in the future.

Glad to hear all the fleshy parts are still attached. Gun parts are much easier to repair and replace than human parts.

Yes I know it was borderline on the losing the fingers area. I was stone sober at the time when loading as well which is the only way to load of course. I will measure 3 times from now on if I have to. I definitely will never repeat that error again.

While it may not provide the best choice in powder, but an old crusty reloader told me to use a powder charge that takes up at least 1/2 the case volume (and still be within the safe guidelines for the case and powder) By doing so, the chance of a double charge is impossible or at least very obvious. I'll admit, I've not always followed this advice.

I like using the 231 Ball powder in my reloads but am going to do about 5 of them up after I completely clean my 45 as its full of powder which is making it pretty stickey right now to operate. Don't think there's any real damage to it at all but I will give it a complete examination before I fire it of course after a thorough cleaning. My next loads will be around 4.1 grains and positively No more then that as I like me the way I am already with all my pieces on me.

Glad you came out of it with all of your phalanges. The half case powder advice is good stuff. Hope the 45 turns out ok too.

I have planned to-morrow as the day I will do some handgun cleaning and will find out for sure at that time but I suspect its going to be OK. I know it blew a lot of powder thru the breech area and other internals by the way it slides. Slightly sticky but not real bad. Needs a good cleaning as well as my M41 also. When my 41 starts getting slow to react then I know its dirty as well as I only use CCI SV 40 grain in it. I have a M46 also but use it for my backup if the 41 is not behaving correctly. We seem to be able to get the CCI very easy here by the brick which is handy during this ammo shortage. Actually we have NO shortage here at all just price increases.

Had that been in a Glock, you would have been in serious trouble. Now you know why I, aka Mr. Careless, don't reload. At least I haven't yet got up the nerve to do so. As my brain cells continue to deteriorate in the future I may get up enough nerve to do so.

This us a Norinco 45 that I blew up per say. Its a really tough gun to take what I put it thru and come out still in great shape. The quality has impressed me on this one but I probably will update it next year along with some other toys I have.
