Yesterday I went up to the "fine gun room", which is above the range I shoot at. They showed me a used Colt .45 Trophy Match that they wanted $1300 for. I pulled the trigger and was amazed how light it felt. I could have swore it was less than 2lbs pull. (I carry 9mm and .45 snap-caps). Today I took a trigger scale and was amazed that it was actually a 4lb pound pull. We tried it several times with the same results. But it "felt" so light. Then when I came home, just for the heck of it I used the same scale on my Ruger P90, and it read 3.5lb. This convinced me that the only thing my finger was good for was picking my nose, and I felt like a fool for saying that the Colt had to be less than 2lbs. I mean the scale can't lie - why would the Colt feel so light? Could the width of the trigger i.e. the amount of surface that contacts the finger make a difference? Or is it because it had little take-up and was a SA vs. my P90, which is DA? I bought the Browning Hi-Power after pulling the trigger in the store. Then I never did shoot very well with it. It does take a lot more trigger pull. Sure can't trust my finger.

Tman; The Trophy is pretty good, but that heavy wide trigger, with the short break on the hammer hooks will fool you. I did the same thing on a Trophy, but put it at about the same as my other pistols at 3 1/2 lb. The next day I went to purchase it, and after getting it home I found the trigger to break at 3 1/2 lb. For a stock series 80 trigger, 3 1/2 to 4 lbs is exceptional, but remember, this is Colt's Target grade 1911. I have found $1700. dollar Kimber Gold Match pistols which broke at 4 1/2 lbs. It takes only a little tweaking to get a 3 to 3 1/2 lb. break from a 4 lb. trigger. The feel of the wider heavy Gold Cup triggers will take about a pound or more off the actual weight off the break. I have a National Match, that I knew too well, before I looked at my Trophy. Was I surprised at the Trophy's Trigger ? You bet I was; I liked everything about the pistol, including the price. I also liked the throat on the chamber, added to the fact than the one I bought has the Bomar rear sight.
