Is there a difference between the finishes in the Sig p229? Specfically I am finding the following descriptions in finishes for the P229...
"blackened stainless"
"Nitron Finish"
These two are confusing me, ar ethey one in the same?
Thanks...

I think they are the same. The only other finish is stainless or two tone for the P229.
Are you in the market for one?
Me to.

Mitch; I usually accept the Sig finishes without much question. They have had the K- kote and Blue, and I have seen mention of the Nitron finish somewhere. I do not have much information before me on the Nitron finish, or any of the finishes on the Sigs, except that I do not have any complaints or needed urge to upgrade. whether the K-Kote is Nitron, may well be in your answer, but I have not seen the 229 offered in the K-Kote finish.

DA,
I'm looking into buying a Sig P229 refurb - $500.00
The seller is recommending buying the Sig P229 in .357 first, then getting the barrel converison in .40, does it matter ? What if I get the .40 first, can that P229 I buy with the .40 convert to the .357?
Thanks,
MHS

Mitch; It makes no difference, I've bought a 229 in the .40 S&W with the .357 Sig Barrel, I've bought another 229 in the .357 sig with the .40 S&W conversion barrel, and I've also bought the 226, and 239, with the same conversion set up. I have bought the 229 Sport pistols, one in the .357 sig, the other in the .40 S&W, and had the .357 sig Sport fitted with the .40 S&W ( The Sport Pistols have to be hand fitted at the Sigarms custom shop ). From my experience, the drop in Sig conversion barrel tolerances are so perfect that daylight will not be seen between the barrel hood and breech face.

DA, Thanks... Just wanted to make sure. One other question, which is more cost effective of the two calibers - .40 or .357Sig? I am thinking .40 is usually chepaer than the .357 Sig, since the .357 Sig is more of a special round? It will determine which barrel to buy first. Cheers!

Hey Guys! I found someone who sells Factory refurbed Sigs: www.shootsmart.com/I found him off the High Road Forum Board with the following post.... www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67342Sig 220, 226, 228, 229 Factory Recons (FL) These are all Sig factory recondition pistols complete with box, owners manual, lock, and 2 magazines. All are unfired since the factory recon. These will rate as excellent condition. As far as I know they are all 10rd mags but I'll verify that.

P-226 9mm $489
P-228 9mm $439
P-229 .357 Sig $499
P-229 .40 S&W $499
Shipping is actual cost to your FFL.
Thanks, Larry@shootsmart.com

Mitch; Those are not great deals; I have bought New Condition never fired Sigs from individuals for $500., and never paid the first cent of shipping costs or FFL fees. I bought a New never fired Sig 229, .40 S&W, full nickel, with Trijicon Tritium sites, for $600. from a dealer. I knew the pistol because it belonged to my brother, just one hour before the purchase. I've purchased a 220, and a 226, never fired, for $500., with ammo, and extra magazines tossed in. I've seen new 226s in 9mm, with as many as 7 high cap mags go for $500. The Gun dealers and pawn shops down here give a maximum of $300. for previously owned P- Series Sigs. I can buy alot of gun for $500.

The costs of the 357 sig might cost a litte more than the .40 S&W because of the availability of brass for reloads on the .40. I have not gave much for either, because I've been picking up on alot of ammunition from individual liquidation sales.

Hmmm For me that's the best I've seen, because in CA, even used is higher than those prices and they aren't even refurbs.

Alot influences the price of pre-owned handguns, including sudden changes in local economy because of sudden surges in unemployment, supply in demand, cash flow, and dealer mark ups. Within our own circles, we try to offer more than what the dealers and pawn shops offer, but try to stay within $500. Sigs are fairly common to find here, but the Wilsons, Les Baers, STI, Sig 210, and the upper ends fall into the hands of big money fairly fast, or never leave the back rooms, to be offered to regular big spenders before being out. I can understand why some would find the refurbished Sigs a great deal, ten years ago it would be a great deal here too. I paid $720. for my first P-220, because it was the only one to be found around the area, now their everywhere.

I'll look around some more, but those might be the best price I have seen yet. It looks like the Sig is poplar in the south over there.

Mitch; What it takes to put a pistol, like the Sig in the spotlight, is Promotion, Endorsement, Presentation, and Merit. The Sig is quite a bargain for what it offers, even at full retail. There was a time, just a few years ago. my Uncle had a Class III permit, my Cousin was a Class III federal firearms dealer who sold to Law Enforcement, from Smyrna, Ga. ( home of Glock and Ingram Mac 10 ), and my other cousin also had an FFL. Buying, Selling,& Trading guns is very popular here. We even have our own ammunition companies; I wish Sigarms had located here to give us more Arms manufacturers.
