Looks like a good reason to give serious thought to a higher capacity polymer carry pistol in .45 acp. I wonder what the retail price is on this one ? I once came very close to buying a Walther P99 but when down to the 1911 area of the counter and purchased a Colt Series 70 instead. It was the closest I had came to buying a polymer pistol in my life. The Colt turned out to be the best one they had among three others, but I am with nothing but single stacks in .45 acp. I noticed the trigger being 5.5 to 7.7 lbs; for a semi auto I can live with the 5.5 but 7.7 is a little on the heavy side. Maybe some of the Springfiled XD owners and contribute some helpful advice to improving the trigger.

DA, the trigger on the XD has always been a mystery to me. With my gauge, my XD-9 is breaking at 6.5lbs. My Glock at slightly less than 3.5lbs (haven't retested them since getting the digital scale).
However, I shoot the XD far better than I do the Glock 34. I've shot three other Glock 17's and did not do well with them. I've shot one other XD, and did well enough to go buy one myself.
I've been a fan of light triggers. I take sadistic delight in letting someone shoot one of my pistols when the first shot goes off and they say: "$#@%, I wasn't ready for that". Of course last week shooting my buddy's Remington 700, which he had a trigger job done on, it happened to me.
My Browning Hi-Power breaks at 6.5lbs the same as the XD, and it is a glass-break trigger, but it feels a lot heavier than the XD's. Might be the width of the trigger, or the shape of the trigger I don't know, but what I do know is the designers of the XD got it right.
I wouldn't think about trying to change anything about the fire-control assembly on the XD.
I won't be buying a XD-45ACP because I think it would just be like my XD-9 with more recoil. If I want recoil, I have some other toys. ;D

I love the thought of 14 rounds of 45ACP. Fobos and I have talked before about capacity versus firepower at pretty good length. What if you are in a situation where you have to engage multiple targets and only have 7-8 rounds plus a spare mag after reload?
Something like this kind of solves the issue. I've been in the market for a hi-cap 45 for a while now. I love the Paras but not the price tag. I thought about the G21 but its like holding onto a 2x4. This I would have to hold first, but it seems like the perfect hi-cap 45.
I have an email into Springfield asking when these will be in stores. As far as price, I imagine they would hover around $500 or slightly under for a 4" duty. Ported and five inch will most likely be $50 or so more.
I like the trigger on my XD9 5" tactical. I don't know where it breaks or anything, just that it's not an issue at all. And I use that gun for target.

There are also shops that specialize now in doing trigger jobs on XDs. I've heard of 3# trigger pulls coming out of shops.

It does sound like the best of both worlds. Then again, I am less a stickler for larger cartridges these days than I used to be. Though I have a Para 14*45, I have been conceal carrying my Glock 17 quite frequently because of my proficiency with it and my faith in it.

I have a good excuse to supplement my XD 40 (and after-market 9 mm barrel) with the XD 45. My son and his friend (who lived with us for a while) gave me 200 rounds of 45 ammo without knowing that I had just sold my Kimber Custom. I need something to use up all those rounds.
Yea, that's the ticket.

Ahhh Ron, you are a man after mine own heart. The more flimsy excuse - the better it is.

Heck, this is nothing new. I acquired my 357 Blackhawk because someone gave me several boxes of 357 ammo. All that fine ammo looked so forlorn and lonely in the drawer.
Merry Christmas to you all, my RKBA buddies!

Sounds like my being a poor fisherman lead to spending 40K one week.
I am the worst avid fisherman you will ever find. Convinced myself it was because I didn't have a boat. So I bought a 24 foot pontoon boat. I then realized I had no way to get it home. So I went to a Jeep dealership and picked up a Grand Cherokee to tow it.
I still can't fish.

I'm still very partial to the 45 as a defensive round. All things being equal I believe that it offers me the best "bang for my buck". But first and foremost I believe you have to feel good about the gun and your abilities with it. I carry my Kimber of my other guns for one reason and its not because its a 45. I carry it because I'm better with it than any other gun and it never fails me.

I'm told by Brandy at Springfield that delivery should start in the nest 30-60 days. Thats a little vague ... kinda makes me think they might be having some issues.

TBT, it could be import issues. I think the XD's are all imported. I doubt if it is technical issues. By the way, Ron mentioned his "RKBA buddies". So, I stared at the screen, listened to the coffee maker, and nothing registered. Then I went to google and found something cool explaining it. Yuk, it looks better on a white background.

All XD's are imported from Croatia. Prices will likely be about $500-550 for service model. The grip is only slightly longer than the .40/9mm/357sig, I can't remember how much wider...I'll get the measurments later. What I find interesting is the capacity of .45ACP is 14, while the .40S&W is 12. As far as trigger work, it is generally not recommended for non professionals. Rich and canyon creek gets a lot of work from the guys on the xd forum... www.canyon-creek.com/xd.htm I haven't had any work done on my trigger, nor do I have a scale, but it sure feels lighter than 5.5lbs. The trigger safety takes a little getting used to, if you've never shot a gun with one before. I was used to it within the first day of shooting.

My local shop is taking orders for the 45ACPXD and their price is $525. Usually as a rule guns are mosr expensive around here than what is dicussed on this board. For instance, Fobos talks about getting Glocks for like $475. I can't touch a G17 for less than $530.

Hey, PA isn't that far from ID. Hmmm, can you go to another state and buy a firearm or can you only buy in the state you are a resident? Anyone know?
