When I first saw the picture, I thought: "Handgun? I didn't know you could obtain 'medical marijuana' in Georgia.
I thought that LSI's stuff was inexpensive, but that little sucker is not inexpensive. From Becky's web-site:

TMan; This firearm is classified as a Handgun (or whatever) by the BATF, because was designed and manufactured that way, instead of altering the design of a rifle.
Just a little information, for our guest in our audience today

There was something like that in the case at the Buffalo Gun Center last week. I didn't notice the price or the details though...

I just watched "Zombieland" the movie, and Woody Harrelson had one of these, but I wouldn't call it an handgun!

I just watched "Zombieland" the movie, and Woody Harrelson had one of these, but I wouldn't call it an handgun! I wouldn't either singleaction; But as long the BAFT allows these to be classified has "Handguns", I have no arguments ;D ;D I have been wanting of these guns for a long time; ever since I was 6 years old. I really don't care about shooting it, as much I do about having it. ;D As a avid gun owner, I am sure you will understand this ;D From the '50s television series, Wanted Dead Or Alive, starring Steve McQueen, the Mare's Laig is being offered as a functional firearm from JB Custom. Claimed to be classified as a BATF legal pistol. www.jbcustom.com/new-mares.htmen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mare's_Leg www.mcqueenonline.com/gunsquarterlyarticle.htmThe John Taffin Review : www.jbcustom.com/mares.htm

DA, I think it is classified as a handgun because of the length of the barrel. It might have to do with the overall length too. I do know that if the barrel is under a certain length than it is not a legal rifle.
We had an incident not long ago at the range. One of the members, who used to be an ATF agent noticed another member shooting a rifle that did not have the proper length barrel. It appears that this is legal if you have the proper paper work. The guy then told the RO who went and asked the guy if he had the paperwork, and he produced it to show the RO.
I think this is part of the reason that I think the bullpup design is so cool, but I've never shot one that had a decent trigger.
This gun is available at RSR, Sports South, Ellett Bros, and Camfour. Sports South currently only has one, but they have the best price of the four. It would cost your FFL just under $1100. Although it might be cheaper to order it from one of the internet sites, pay the shipping and your FFL's transfer fee. That would avoid the local sales tax.

TMan; I think the cut down stock has a lot to do with it also, with being classified as a Handgun.

DA, yes, that is what I meant about the overall length. However, by making it a handgun, they don't have to buy the tax stamp for each gun, which they would have to do for a rifle that is smaller than allowed.

Without doubt, this the coolest gun that I have even seen in my lifetime; next to the Colt Commando.

BIGDOG; I thought the very same thing, when I first saw this shorty, in Vietnam. I also thought that would be a more modern version of The Mare's Laig. ;D

Since we've moved up a couple decades, and into SBRs Don't forget about the "Krinkov" I know AK's aren't many people's thing, but with the AR shorty, I had to chime in with it. And don't forget the H&K's Brugger&Thomet TP9 and there's the FN PS90 that we've seen before too. and many others... BTW, for those wondering: Short-Barreled Rifle (SBR) - A shoulder-stocked rifle having a barrel less than 16" (as measured from the face of a closed bolt to the end of the permanent muzzle) or an overall length less than 26". Also included are certain pistols that accept detachable shoulder stocks. Antique guns and some guns listed on the Federal Curios & Relics list may be exempted from registration. Full automatic variants are not considered SBRs and are registered as machine guns. The Federal Transfer tax on any SBR is $200.

That PS90 has my vote for the ugliest carbine / sbr.

That PS90 has my vote for the ugliest carbine / sbr. Well how about his big brother, the FS2000? I still kick myself for not getting the FS2000 when FN had the $250 rebate. I did get the PS90, and got a $200 rebate for that. The looks don't bother me, but the crappy triggers sure do. What is neat about the PS90 is the way the magazine is loaded and the rounds rotate 90 degrees. I wonder if that is where the 90 in the name PS90 came from?

Wow. That looks like there should be a plug hanging from the back so I can plug it into a game system.
Joking aside, these aren't meant for looks. As long as it gets the job done, I'm sure there'll be few complaints from the ones behind the trigger.

Getting back to the Mare's Laig: it is a cool looking pistol, but I'm not fond of the large loop lever. I think it would look better with the standard size lever. I understand the value of the large loop when you are in cold climates, I just don't care for the looks.
