Went in to our one and only gunshop last Sat here in London and there sat a S&W M41 with the muzzle brake. I had to have a good look at it as it looked in really great shape. The price Tag was only $595.00 and it has the long barrel and the low serial no. of 12304 which means its about a 1959 year model. The action is perfect in it as well as the finish is extremly good as well for the age. The grips are chewed up a wee bit but they can be replaced fairly easily. I knew it was mine right then and there. It will come home this coming week after I get the paperwork from the RCMP which should be around Monday I suspect. I already have a M46 which will become my range backup gun. It was made in 1963 and shoots as good as a new 41. Got that one for $400.00 just a year ago now. The previous owner needed the money for a African Safari Hunting Trip he was going on. I doubt I will ever find another one this cheap again unless somebody is totally blind or off of their bean for sure.

That's a terrific price for a M41. They're going for around $800-900 here.

I didn't know about the Model 46 either. Lose those plastic grips and that would be one fine looking pistol. It's noted as being a less expensive version of the model 41. I wonder what the differences are...

The M46 is a cheaper version of the m41 which does come with plastic grips which are identical to the M41 grips. They are interchangeable but few other parts are actually like the barrels for example. I have already traded off my plastic grips for a set of the nice wood grips which may have been a mistake as they are actually worth more then the wooden ones. The m46 was only built in 1963 with around 2600 I hear only being produced. It has the Bomar type sights and looks and is weighted the same as the M41. My 46 does look nicer with the wooden grips on it and I am looking for another set now to replace the ones on this newer purchase. I knew when I 1st seen the price tag it was going to be mine for that price especially with the age of it as well. At 1st glance you cannot tell the difference between the 2 models on the newer ones as only the older ones up to around 1972 I believe come with the Compensator on the end of the barrel. I don't think they actually help improve ones shooting ability but for value its definitely worth keeping for sure. Hopefully the permit will be here this week as its almost 10 days now I am waiting for it altho we just had a long week-end up here a week back which only delays things on their end of course. In the meantime I have sold my 22A-1 to a novice shooter to get him started and help defray the cost of the M41. That makes me feel even better yet as well.

Where were you in London where they sold pistols? I don't doubt you but it conflicts from what I saw.
I was there last year and rarely saw a policeman with a pistol. I stayed with some relatives in Surrey for over a week.

9mm are you talking apples to apples here? He is talking London Ontario, which is in Canada. There is a Surrey in Ontario as well as in England, so I'm not sure which one you are talking about.
Canada isn't as gun friendly as Texas, but it sure is much more so than England.

Yes this is London Ontario Canada where I live. Its a very common mistake many people make. In England I hear is a real bugbear about owning any form of gun ownership period. Handguns are left at your club and Never Ever allowed at your home for any reason. All mine come home with me here whenever I leave my gunclub. WE actually have a Surrey here as well but thats out in British Columbia on the West Coast. Its really beautiful out there and usually nicer weather as well but they get a lot more rain then we do here. We get the dam white rain called Snow. We have to own a snowblower here for sure.

Actually we just may have some to-night but it won't stay very long as its almost too warm to snow outside at the moment. Maybe overnight I suspect as the winds are up really high here to-day and are knocking tree's down all over London taking out the hydro in many area's already. Its been on the radio that our Hydro Crews are having trouble keeping up with the damage already here in town. My street has been luckey so far but I have a generator anyways and can survive. I have found another M41 up here For Sale for only $599.00. Its at a gunshop called Elwood Epps gunstore. It has the long barrel on it as well. No serial no.s given but a short description is available on it.

Finally I got a special carry permit this afternoon from the Mounties and I brought the gun home. I have taken pics of it as well as my M46 but am totally terrible at posting them on a board. Now that I have torn the M41 down I find its in better shape then I thought. Happiness is For Sure. I took a few of them both together to show the differences between them. If anyone would like a copy of them just e-mail me and I will send them to you.

9MM This happens a lot so Please don't feel bad at all as you are far from being the 1st person and I am sure won't be the last as well. I do not take it in a offensive way at all as I find it Funny it happens so often. I believe there's a London in Ohio as well as I know there's a Ontario in California also. Pic Big Smile. MLB would you like some pics of both my 41 and 46 to-gether as I have taken 5 of them which show the differences with them? I would be Happy to send them to you at anytime.

I'll send you a PM with my email address. If you'd like, I'll put them up on the forum, or you can do it too. I use www.imageshack.us to store the pics online. www.photobucket.com is another option. We have a thread here somewhere discussing how it's done. I'll look it up. Bother. The forum software doesn't play well with the Chrome browser I'm using. The PM and Search functions just don't work. I'll have to log in with another browser. I stopped into the local gun shop last week and was eyeballing the M41 they had under the glass. There was another that looked like it could be a M46, but I'm not sure. They were busy with paying customers at the time, so I didn't bother the guy. I'll have to check in later and take another look.

Yes Please do as I was able to get them into a package but just cannot seem to figure out how to post them on the net. I would love to hear from you at any time as you are most welcome to write me at any time. By having these pics you will know for sure what a M46 does look like and see the differeneces in them. I fired it last night the 41 for the 1st time and it hates the Federal Bulk Pack stuff as well as my M46 does also. I am going to change the spring and check the ejector on it just in case it is worn. Its a 1959 model so that is a possibility I believe. Ordered the parts this afternoon. I also heard that many of the newer ones also hate the latest Federal ammo as well but I bought some CCI to try it out. This was from my Gunsmith himself to-day.
